They are available in a wide variety of finishes, colors and styles to complement your decor. Some have a tiny hole that you can put an incredibly small screwdriver to release the set screws holding the knob in place. Some have a small slot, or hole, that you can press a spring-activated detent pin with a flathead. This pin releases the latch mechanism, and lets you to pull or push the knob.

After you have gained access to the shaft or spindle, take the knob off of the door and replace it with the new one. Check that the latch functions properly before tightening new set screws.

Once you've replaced the knob, hold the rod of the latch over the door's hole and interlock it with the rod mechanism on the second knob. Ensure that the holes are in alignment, then tighten the screws for the latch plate.

Some people choose an brushed or smooth metal finish for the door hardware to give their home a modern and sleek style. This will match their other furniture. Others prefer a more rustic style which is great for farmhouse-styled spaces. If you have members of your household who have mobility issues, you may think about an rim lock or a lever style door knob, which require less pressure to operate.

Other aspects are being considered more and more for the design of door handles. Accessibility and control of infections are two major issues that have led to the development of new and innovative designs for handles like those that can be operated with the forearm of a person.

Latch

The latch that holds the handle of your door open may wear out over time. The replacement of the latch to fit a new handle can be an easy DIY project and will make a significant change in the way your door opens and closes.

Depending on what type of handle you use the latch can be a separate component or a component of the knob. In either case, you will follow the same procedure to remove and replace. It's simple to remove the old latch, especially when you have doors with a "magic" button. The tiny pressure-slot, which is located on the side knob is what you need to press in order to remove the latch of the handle.

If your handle doesn't have this magic button, the first step is to remove any cover plates that are positioned over the latch plate. These are usually rectangular or circular and can be removed using a screwdriver in order to remove them off the handle. Some have a small slot inside that you can put your screwdriver into, while others snap off.

The next step is to unscrew the two machine screws holding the latch and the inner plate to the door handle. It is important to keep these screws with a pointed tip in a safe place to be able to reuse them later. After the screws have been removed, you can remove the latch plate as well as the mechanism from the hole and put it aside.

You can now begin installing; visit link, the new latch. Install the inside plate of the latch into the hole in the door and secure it using the hardware provided. Make sure that the square pin on the interior of the latch is facing the latching mechanism inside the handle and is aligned with the other screw holes in the handle for double glazed window. Then fix the exterior latch plate using the screws supplied.

Strike Plate

One of the most frequent reasons for replacing a door handle is because it feels loose or isn't locking properly. This is often caused by malfunctioning components of the latching mechanism, for example the strike plate being too short or moved upwards or downwards on the doorjamb as time passes. This project lets you replace your old strikeplate with a longer one, which can provide better security for your door and keep it closed.

To determine if the issue is due to the strike plate, apply lipstick or similar marking material to the latch bolt. Close the door and try to latch it. If the mark is lower than the strike plate's hole, it indicates that the plate is too small and the door won't latch. If the mark is over the strike hole on the plate, it's likely that the strike plate has been moved upwards or downwards on the doorjamb.

You might be able to screw the new strikeplate into the old one using the screws that come with it, based on the door. You may have to drill holes first and then chisel the wood to ensure a perfect fit. If this is the case, you must be careful not to cut too hard or you'll ruin the integrity of your doorjamb.

Installing a brand new box-style strike plate will give the lock a more secure grip on doors and require more force to open them. It usually requires two longer screws to fix the strike plate into the door frame. It is necessary to remove the old strike plate and then drill and chisel the wood to make room for the new one.

This difficult-to-find strike plate was specifically designed to work with antique rim locks, and it's made from durable solid brass in a heavy duty thickness. This kit comes with wood screws and machine screws so you can select the appropriate hardware to suit your requirements. Remember that wood screws have a pointed point, whereas machine screws are blunter.
